Benton is now one year old in every possible way, as we got the chance to celebrate his one year adjusted birthday (i.e. one year from his official due date). It was quite a special day as it marks the anniversary of his due date, a day that one year ago saw us with a 4 month old baby in the NICU rather than a brand-new swaddled newborn.

It also means that I no longer have the tricky task of explaining how old Benton is. "He's one". Such a simple phrase, yet for the last few months I have had the odd task of explaining how old Benton is with many caveats. When someone asks his age, depending on who it is, I might say "He's 15 months old", but then there are the inevitable questions --- is he walking, what was his first word??? Those questions plunge me down a rabbit hole where I am forced to explain how I had him extremely early and that no, he isn't walking yet, but he crawls everywhere. Now I can just answer simply...he's one and its true in every way. Simplicity is nice :)
To celebrate Benton's big day we made cupcakes and gave him a couple of fun new toys. He was a bit more interested in the cupcake this time around, but he still wouldn't taste them.

Every time Benton reaches another milestone I thank God for miracles. It is just so unbelievable and amazing that we have such a bundle of joy in our lives. Benton is growing and thriving every day and makes us laugh constantly. We couldn't be happier with our big boy!
